Good Boy share ‘122 Million’ from Shirk Life EP ahead of New Zealand debut
“Instant fan.” - Zan Rowe, Triple J
Tuesday, 13 March - Good Boy are the Australian indie garage punk band you didn’t know you needed in your headphones. In just a few years, the band has gone from jamming in their lounges to massive crowds at festivals, released three EPs and now they’re crossing the Tasman for four North Island dates in support of Hockey Dad in April.
With their impending visit in mind, it’s time to introduce Kiwis to the band who has no shortage of opinionated hits, sharing the single ‘A Waste Of Approximately 122 Million Dollars (Taxpayer Funded)’ AKA ‘122 Million’ from the EP Shirk Life. The single was premiered worldwide by Matt Wilkinson on Beats1.
The song spits a frustrated message about the absurd, insulting and embarrassing marriage equality plebiscite in Australia. Recorded by Cameron Smith (Dune Rats, DZ Deathrays and Velociraptor) and mixed and mastered by Mikey Young (Eddy Current Suppression Ring / Total Control), ‘A Waste Of Approximately 122 Million Dollars (Taxpayer Funded)’ is whip-smart and catchy-as-hell. And it comes with a briliant video (click below to watch).
Songwriter and frontman Rian King says “This song is about the waste of approximately 122 million dollars of taxpayer money that was the Australian Government’s postal plebiscite on same sex marriage. 122 million dollars of public funding for an opinion is disgusting. In NZ all they had to do was sign a piece of paper and go to lunch but our pathetic bureaucracy-obsessed needed to spend money and time and distract for what should have already been legal. There is and was never any valid argument against same sex marriage.”
The triple j darlings are spending 2018 working on their debut LP and touring, with Auckland their first ever international stop.
"This is our first time touring overseas and we're super excited for New Zealand to be our first stop,” says Tom Lindeman. “We've always talked about touring NZ and we're pretty chuffed to be doing it with our mates, Hockey Dad.”
Let’s get ready to welcome Good Boy to our shores and our airwaves. Listen to Shirk Life.
